For your consideration we are offering for sale this early Circa 1915 Waterman #12 Red Mottled Hard Rubber Eyedropper Fountain Pen. This fountain pen has been thoroughly taken apart, cleaned and put back together and now is in wonderful writing condition. Scarce Waterman model to find, especially in this condition with a very flexible nib.
Hand cleaned the NIB and feed. Hand cleaned the inside of the barrel, cap, and section with mineral oil. Cleaned the outside of the cap and barrel with mineral oil and the hard rubber displays a nice mottled color (red & black) with vibrant coloring.
This fountain pen is made from red mottled hard rubber. This is an Eyedropper Fountain Pen and that means you would unscrew the section to add the ink via an eyedropper. The barrel has fair imprints at the center that read, "WATERMAN'S FOUNTAIN PEN N.Y. The PAT'D MAY 23, 1899 & AUG 3, 1904 U.S.A are nearly non-existent very faint ". The butt end of the fountain pen has the #12 imprint.
The cap is a slip type cap always securing tightly to the barrel. There are no monograms to either the cap or barrel. There are no cracks, nicks or repairs to the hard rubber. This Waterman #12 measures 5" in length capped and 6 1/2" posted.
The Waterman IDEAL New York NIB is a #2 Flexible Nib. The actual tip of the Waterman 14K NIB measures .64mm with digital calipers. When writing the sample in the listing images, the NIB writes with a medium line measuring .68mm and will flex to a triple broad stroke at 2.94mm with medium to firm pressure when being measured with digital calipers. The writing sample provided was done with the actual pen in the images that are listed for sale. The writing sample was used by dipping the NIB in Parker Quink Blue Ink.
Any specks of white in the images are from the cotton that I used to clean the barrel and cap.
This Waterman #12 is a tough model to acquire, it is a scarce fountain pen made in the early 1900s. This Waterman is extremely clean and would consider it collector worthy. I would consider this Waterman #12 to easily grade in Very Fine to Excellent Condition. It is ready to write or just add to your writing arsenal collection
